The City of Leesburg has announced that Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Henry will be appointed to the position of Fire Chief effective Feb. 7.
This appointment is due to the retirement of current Fire Chief Joe Mera. Chief Mera has formally announced his retirement after a distinguished 24-year career with the Leesburg Fire Department.

Chief Henry is no stranger to LFD as he has served with the department for over 20 years, beginning his fire services career as an entry level firefighter. Chief Henry holds a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies from the University of Central Florida and has amassed a number of designations and accreditations in the fire services industry.
He is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program in Emmitsburg, Md.
“Chief Henry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this position. His
background and skills will ensure the Leesburg Fire Department continues to move forward while providing consistent and effective service to our community,” said City Manager Al Minner.
