A drunk driving suspect has been jailed after a crash killed two people in Lake County.

Seenarine Hardeo, 50, of Groveland, is facing two counts of driving under the influence homicide following the crash which occurred at 7:03 p.m. Friday at State Road 33 and Swamp Drive near Pine Island Lake south of Groveland, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Hardeo had been driving a 2009 Mini Cooper northbound on State Road 33 when he traveled into the southbound lane of travel into the direct path of a 2019 semi hauling a trailer driven by a 67-year-old Miramar man. The trucker tried to swerve to avoid the collision, but veered into the path of a pickup driven by a 22-year-old man from Frostproof. The impact forced the semi and the pickup to run off the road and overturn.

The Frostproof man and his 18-year-old passenger from Tallahassee both suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The truck driver was seriously injured and was taken to South Lake Hospital.

Hardeo escaped injury and was booked without bond at the Lake County Jail.
