A Leesburg man was killed in a crash with a semi that sent a passenger to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries this morning.

A 67-year-old man and a 63-year-old man from Arkansas were driving a 2016 semi-truck with a trailer northbound on County Road 473 at 5:50 a.m. Monday, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. Meanwhile, a 57-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were traveling southbound on the same road in a 2005 Ford F-150.

Both vehicles were approaching Lake Eustis Drive in Leesburg when the semi stopped to back into a private driveway. The Ford did not stop for the semi blocking the roadway ahead, and the front of it struck the left side of the semi’s trailer. The occupants of the semi were not injured and stayed at the scene.

However, the male driver of the Ford F-150 was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, located at 52 W Underwood St., Orlando, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
