The Lake County Board of County Commissioners has issued an emergency order declaring a local state of emergency in response to Sunday’s flash flooding event that caused significant damage and hazardous conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, a warm front moving across Central Florida brought intense rainfall totaling 14–19 inches in Eustis and 10–14 inches in Mount Dora, resulting in widespread flooding. The heavy rain stranded motorists, required rescues and temporary sheltering, and caused the closure or washout of several roadways, including Britt Road, Wolf Branch Road, Timberlake Drive, Limit Avenue, and Donnelly Street. Sinkholes were also reported in the Eustis area on East Crooked Lake Drive and Country Club Drive.

Additional rainfall as expected through Monday, which may worsen existing flooding and damage. The declaration allows the County Manager, Emergency Management Director, and Board Chair to exercise all emergency powers under Chapter 252, Florida Statutes and Article VII, Chapter 2 of the Lake County Code to safeguard public health, safety, and property.
The declaration is effective immediately and will remain in effect for seven days, unless extended or canceled as permitted by law.
