A 28-year-old man has died as the result of a crash involving a speeding wrong-way driver on U.S. Hwy. 27 in Lake County.
The Orlando man was driving a 2021 Toyota Camry at 1:54 a.m. Sunday northbound on U.S. Hwy. 27 near Frank Jarrell Road south of Clermont when his vehicle was struck by a 2019 Audi Q5 driven by a 22 -year-old Windermere man, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A witness told the investigator that the Audi was traveling “at a high rate of speed” and was southbound in the northbound lane.
The Orlando man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Windermere man was transported as a trauma alert to Orlando Regional Medical Center. He suffered serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
