A Poinciana woman was arrested for theft after swapping tags and skip-scanning items at Walmart.
A deputy responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont regarding retail theft around 3:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. An asset protection associate stated he stopped 67-year-old Myrna Pena after she passed all points of sale without paying full price for $105.16 in merchandise.
The deputy watched a surveillance video of Pena getting multiple things from a friend and watching her skip-scan. Further review revealed the items scanned were swapped with different price tags, as well. Berry juice had a sticker from discounted cat litter, and chicken wings had a sticker from chicken gizzards, the report said.
Pena later advised that she made a mistake and confessed to swapping the tags. She apologized, offering to pay the price difference, the report said.
The New York native was arrested on charge of retail theft and transported to Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $500 bond.
