A New York woman was arrested for theft after skip-scanning $266 worth of items at a self-checkout in Walmart.
A deputy responded to a theft complaint at Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. An asset protection associate had seen 37-year-old Elizabeth Calo skip-scanning merchandise at self-checkout.
Surveillance footage of the incident showed Calo at self-checkout scanning a single pack of sausage while concealing two more underneath it. She proceeded to put those items in a grocery bag. This process continued for a total of 38 items worth $266.71, the report said.
Calo later advised that she had a lot of items to scan, and if she missed anything, it was unintentional, the report said.
She was arrested on charge of retail theft and transported to Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $500 bond.
