More women in Lake County will soon have access to clear, accessible information about breast cancer thanks to a $6,000 grant through the AdventHealth Waterman Foundation.
The grant, funded by the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, will support the translation of a five-part breast cancer education video series into Spanish. Created by physicians, nurses and cancer care experts at AdventHealth Waterman, the videos guide women through what to expect at every stage from prevention and early detection to treatment options and where to find local support.
With this new funding, more families will have access to trusted, culturally relevant resources in the language they understand best.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against breast cancer but only if people can use it,” said Dr. Shivam Kharod, radiation oncologist at AdventHealth Waterman. “This translation helps us meet women where they are, so they feel seen, supported and informed.”
The translated video series is one of several ways AdventHealth Waterman is working to remove obstacles that make it harder for people to get the care they need. By offering information in Spanish, the health system aims to ease confusion, encourage early detection and empower more women to take charge of their health.
“Language should never stand in the way of a woman protecting her health,” said Mabel Valdivia Diaz, executive director of the AdventHealth Waterman Foundation. “This grant allows us to bring life-saving information to more women in our community so they can face what’s ahead with clarity, confidence and hope.”
The Spanish-language videos will be shared at local clinics, community events and online. The goal is to make sure every woman, no matter what language she speaks, has the knowledge she needs to take care of her body, mind and spirit.
