A woman is spending an additional 45 days in jail after bragging about smuggling fentanyl into the Lake County Jail.
A detention deputy working at the Lake County Jail was stopped by a female inmate who wanted to speak with him, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. She told him to keep an eye on cell 51, which housed 35-year-old Tiffany Danielle Skidmore.
“She told me she never got strip searched in booking and snuck in her fentanyl,” the inmate told the guard.
The detention deputy then gathered other female detention deputies and went to cell 51 to strip search Skidmore and her cell. While waiting for supervisors to bring her to booking, the deputy found a menstrual pad with a pink baggie containing two small blue baggies with white powdery substance. He immediately confiscated the pad and shared his findings, the report said.
Skidmore was taken to be scanned by an X-ray machine and strip searched, which yielded nothing. She was ultimately taken back to her cell pending infractions for possession of contraband and conduct which disrupts, the report said.
Another detention deputy who assisted with the search asked Skidmore what was in the plastic bags. She claimed it was crushed Xanax. She admitted to hiding it on herself when she was booked, the report said.
Detectives with the LCSO were informed of this incident on Monday. The baggies were brought in as evidence and tested. One of them was confirmed to be fentanyl while the other was not positive for any narcotics, the report said.
The detectives then responded to the jail to interview Skidmore. She advised that she did not bring in the narcotics when she was booked, claiming instead that she bought them from another female inmate who was recently released. She did not know the inmate’s name but bought the narcotics for two Nutty Buddies and a Swiss cake, the report said.
Skidmore stated she assumed the narcotics were Xanax, yet the inmate told her the baggies had fentanyl in them. She added that she had the narcotics hidden in a feminine pad inside of a green bag that was issued to her when she was booked at the jail, the report said.
The Indiana native was charged with introduction of contraband into a county jail and possession of fentanyl. These were added to her already existing charges of possession of cocaine (less than 28 grams), drug paraphernalia and fentanyl. Bond was set at $5,000.
