A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery after allegedly attacking a family member during an argument.
Aubrey Simone Puryear, 36, was at an undisclosed Lake County residence with the victim, to whom she was related by blood and marriage, on Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. At 1:15 a.m., the two became involved in a physical fight.
The victim advised that Puryear had been drinking and got progressively more argumentative and louder. She told Puryear to leave her house, and Puryear began “swinging” at her. She clarified that this meant punching and otherwise striking the victim with fists and included pulling hair and breaking a necklace worn on her neck, the report said.
The victim claimed Puryear “attacked” her, and to defend herself, she pushed her away and struck her. An officer did see a portion of torn hair lying on a chair and parts of a broken necklace in the driveway. A witness had a torn short that he said came from trying to restrain Puryear because she kept trying to attack the victim, the report said.
A short time later, a call for service was received at 818 Montclair Road, where Puryear resided and went to contact law enforcement. A deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded, the report said.
Puryear stated she had been beaten and had obvious injuries to her face, including a bump on her head and a cut on her left cheek. She advised that the victim had “jumped on” her and beat her up after accusing her of being intimate with her fiancé. She denied being the aggressor and added that the torn hair and necklace broke while they were fighting, the report said.
Based on sworn statements and physical evidence, law enforcement believed Puryear was the primary aggressor. As a result, she was arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic) and transported to Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.
