A Mount Dora man was arrested after lying about having a stomachache because he was nervous about not having a driver’s license.
An officer spotted a grey Volkswagen with its right headlight out traveling west on Fifth Avenue at around 9:10 p.m. Sunday, May 11, according to an arrest report from the Mount Dora Police Department. He initiated a traffic stop and approached the driver, 36-year-old Jermaine Moore.
Moore advised that he had stomachache, and the officer asked if he needed medical assistance. Moore denied this and stated he would drive himself to the closest hospital. The officer followed him for safety while checking his driving history, the report said.
The officer learned Moore’s license was suspended in 2024. The registration had been expired since December 2023, and he did not have insurance on the vehicle, the report said.
Moore later admitted he lied about his stomach hurting because he was nervous and knew he did not have a driver’s license, the report said.
Moore was subsequently arrested on charge of driving while license permanently revoked. He was also issued a citation for registration and written warnings for no proof of insurance and headlight out. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
