A Leesburg man was arrested when it was learned he did not have a driver’s license after causing two traffic crashes.
Luis Alberto Baca-Morales, 36, drove a white pickup truck hauling a white trailer east on County Road 466A at around 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. He then caused a traffic crash at the intersection with State Road 25 by hitting the back of a black pickup truck.
Baca-Morales proceeded to maneuver his vehicle around the black pickup and went south on State Road 25. A deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was in the turn lanes on the northbound side of the road when he saw a second collision with Baca-Morales’ vehicle and a silver SUV, the report said.
Upon seeing Baca-Morales leave the scene, the deputy turned his patrol vehicle around and conducted a traffic stop in the area of State Road 25 and Beam Street. He identified Baca-Morales using through his Mexico ID. Officers from the FPPD then responded to the area due to both crashes being in their jurisdiction, the report said.
One of the officers was told what happened and completed a crash investigation. At the conclusion of it, he determined Baca-Morales was the driver who caused both crashes. A check of his driving history showed he never had a valid license, the report said.
Baca-Morales was arrested on charges of no driver’s license (never had one) and two counts of leaving the scene of a crash (more than $50 damages). The native of Mexico was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,500 bond.
