A Lake County woman was arrested for battery after allegedly hitting her husband when asked to sign divorce papers.
An officer responded to a battery, later found to involve 37-year-old Victoria Lena Harris, at an undisclosed Lake County residence at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.
Upon arrival, the officer met with a male victim who had a 5-inch scratch mark on his forehead, a partially swollen red mark on his right cheek and some dried blood on the right side of his nose. He advised that Harris, his wife of 15 years who he had been separated from, came over to do laundry. Once it was done, he helped her carry it to her vehicle, the report said.
As he did so, the victim asked Harris to sign the divorce papers. She responded by throwing open and closed strikes at his head and face with her hands. He did not touch her, only yelled for her to leave. He also stated they had a child in common, the report said.
The victim gave the officer Harris’ phone number, which he used to contact her and get an address. The report noted that the Lady Lake Police Department stated the FFPD could go make contact and sent one of their own officers to assist, the report said.
The officers met with Harris who explained that she was trying to carry her laundry to her vehicle. The victim was too close, and she told him to back away. She admitted to pushing him and demonstrated the action. She pushed upward in a direction the officer believed to be toward the victim’s head, the report said.
Harris was subsequently read her rights and agreed to continue talking. She was asked if she scratched the victim, and she said no. She did not know how the marks got onto his head. She also said he did not touch her, only bad mouthed her, the report said.
Harris was ultimately arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). She was transported to Lake County Jail.
