A Leesburg woman was arrested for driving under the influence after officers found an almost-empty bottle of Cuervo tequila in her vehicle.
An officer observed the driver of a passenger car, later identified as 41-year-old Devonn Alishe McClennon, speeding south on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. Radar showed the vehicle to be going 81mph in a 50-mph zone.
After stopping the vehicle near Beam Street, the officer approached the vehicle and observed what looked like a bottle of liquor on the front passenger-side floorboard. He asked McClennon for her driver’s license, and she began frantically looking around. She then rapidly reached into the back seat and pushed the bottle under the passenger seat, the report said.
The report noted McClennon had very glassy eyes and the odor of alcohol coming from her breath. The officer asked if she had anything to drink that day, to which she said only a little. Once another officer got to the scene, she was asked to step out of the vehicle.
McClennon slowly got out and had to be told to step back to the front of the patrol vehicle. She used her left hand to support herself as she did so. She still did not walk to the front of the patrol vehicle and had to be told once again to do it, the report said.
The officer asked McClennon if she would participate in field sobriety exercises, and she agreed. However, she got on the ground and prayed during them. She also got more agitated the further into the investigation the officers got, the report said.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the officers believed McClennon was under the influence. An inventory of the vehicle led to the discovery of an almost empty bottle of Cuervo tequila underneath the front passenger seat. McClennon later refused to provide a breath sample or sign a citation, the report said.
McClennon was subsequently charged with DUI and refusal to sign citation. She was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
