Leesburg commissioners have approved two proportionate share mitigation agreements worth more than $2 million to the Lake County School Board.
The school mitigation agreements have become necessary in Lake County to help address the impact of the increased student population on Leesburg schools.
The first agreement approved by the commissioners requires the payment of $1.373 million to the Lake County School Board by M & C Hunt LLC, the developers of the Huntington Oaks subdivision when the Leesburg Commission approves the recording of a plat for the project. The Lake County School Board has determined that the Huntington Oaks subdivision will add an additional 32 students to Leesburg High School. The school board has determined the cost to provide for each additional student added to the school to be $42,917. Huntington Oaks is located east of County Road 48.
The second school proportionate share mitigation agreement approved by the commissioners requires that Pulte Home Company pay the Lake County School board $858,340 when the construction of the 402 unit Windmill Road subdivision is platted. The Windmill Road subdivision will a result in an additional 20 students at Leesburg High School.
