A Fruitland Park man with a warrant for battery was arrested at his home despite trying to slam the door on officers and resisting orders.
Officers responded to a civil issue, located at 704 Olive Ave., around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.
Upon arrival, the officers met with the complainant and handled the civil complaint accordingly. They were notified that the complainant’s brother, 39-year-old Andrew Robert Fountaine, lived at the location, had an active Sumter County warrant and had the truck he was known to drive in the driveway, the report said.
A check on Fountaine confirmed he had an active Sumter County warrant for domestic battery by strangulation with a nationwide extraction, the report said.
The officers spoke to the homeowner again at the front door of the residence but were told Fountaine was not home. The homeowner denied them access to the house, however due to reasonable suspicion of him being inside the residence and the last known address attached to the warrant being there, the officers stated they had probable cause to enter, the report said.
The homeowner instead slammed the door and locked it. A few moments later, Fountaine unlocked and opened the door. He asked, “What do I have a warrant for?” and tried to slam the door closed when officers told him to step outside, the report said.
Two of the officers stopped the door from closing in order to secure Fountaine. He continued to resist arrest and denied lawful orders to place his hands behind his back. The officers still handcuffed him and escorted him to a patrol vehicle, the report said.
Fountaine was charged with resisting officers without violence on top of the charges from the warrant. The New York native was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
