A Leesburg man was arrested after yelling and threatening to harm officers while they took one of his family members into custody.

An officer was called to assist on a disturbance call at 2641 Shirley’s Wy. around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
While on the call, probable cause was established for the arrest of one of the subjects involved. After placing her under arrest in her bedroom, the two officers began to leave the bedroom with her. Several more family members were arriving to include 32-year-old Jordan Richard Bedford, the report said.
The officers were immediately stopped by Bedford outside of the bedroom, and he began demanding they release the subject they had under arrest. His chest was puffed out, and he had a very confrontational, aggressive demeanor. When the officers did not release the other arrestee, he grew more angered and tried to prevent them from leaving the residence, the report said.
Bedford then stepped forward into the three of them in what appeared to be a display of dominance. At this time, an officer pushed him backward and drew his taser, ordering him to back up. Bedford complied but began to yell and shout, the report said.
The officer proceeded to leave the residence with the arrestee. While they escorted her to a patrol vehicle, Bedford tried twice to come up behind them in what seemed like him preparing to physically attack them. The officer drew his taser again, and Bedford retreated away from them, the report said.
After the arrestee was secured, Bedford continued to shout and stated numerous times that he was going to “beat” the officer. He was being held back by family members who were trying to calm him down during the course of this. The officer approached at that point and told him that he was going to be placed under arrest, the report said.
Bedford once again threatened to “beat” the officer but was redirected away by a family member. He then retreated into the breezeway of the building and appeared to exit out toward Thomas Avenue. Due to the large hostile crowd that had gathered at the scene and no additional backup units, the officer did not pursue Bedford, the report said.
The officer instead relayed Bedford’s description over the radio to officers that were responding. Shortly after, one of them spotted Bedford near Thomas Avenue and Urick Street where he was arrested without further incident, the report said.
Bedford was charged with simple assault (law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMT, etc.) and resisting (obstructing without violence). He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $4,000 bond.
