A wrong-way driver at the wheel of a pickup truck struck and killed a motorcyclist in Lake County.

The 49-year-old Eustis man was driving a 2017 Ram 2500 shortly before midnight Friday traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of State Road 44 at Hammond Lane when his vehicle collided with a 2024 Harley-Davidson Sportster which was eastbound on State Road 44, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 20-year-old Umatilla man was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been riding with a 41-year-old Umatilla man who was on a 2003 Suzuki VL800K. He swerved and laid down his bike. He was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
