The principal of Leesburg High School has been arrested on a drunk driving charge.
Michael A. Randolph, 38, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Saturday by the Clermont Police Department on a second degree misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
He was named principal of LHS in 2017.
He was profiled earlier this year in Education Week, which credited him with improving the school’s graduation rate from 67 percent to 88.9 percent. That is slightly better than the state’s average graduation rate of 88 percent. Eighty percent of the school’s nearly 1,800 students are identified as “economically disadvantaged” by the Florida Department of Education.
Randolph holds degrees from Salisbury University, University of Maryland and University of Phoenix.
