An Apopka woman was arrested as a habitual offender for driving without a license after being stopped for a brake light at Circle K.
An officer observed a black Hyundai Sonata with a brake light out in front of him on State Road 25 around 12:10 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. The tag showed that the registered owner and current driver, 21-year-old Tanaiji Eunae Moton, had a suspended license.
The officer subsequently conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Circle K parking lot, located at 100 W. Miller Blvd. He approached Moton, asking for her driver’s license and vehicle registration. She handed the officer the vehicle registration but started to fumble around in the car like she was looking for her license, the report said.
Based on his training, the officer knew this was common behavior from someone who had a suspended license and was stalling. Moton ultimately stated she did not have her license with her and did not have any form of photo identification, the report said.
The driver instead asked Moton for her name and date of birth, which she gave. He ran it through dispatch who advised that she had multiple suspensions on her license as well as a habitual traffic offender charge from August. The officer ran her information through a separate database and confirmed her identity, the report said.
Moton was arrested on charge of driving while license suspended (habitual offender). She was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
