A high school student in Clermont was arrested for THC possession when a deputy spotted a vape cloud in the bathroom.
A deputy on duty at East Ridge High School, located at 13322 Excalibur Road in Clermont, observed a male student enter a restroom at Building #21 and pull something out of his pocket at 12:33 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon entering the restroom, the deputy saw the juvenile, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, enter a stall and stand in front of where the mirror was located. He then began waving his arms to hide a vape cloud. Due to prior training and experience, the deputy identified the odor as THC, the report said.
The deputy proceeded to escort the juvenile to the administrative office where school administration conducted a search of him. They found a vaping device that tested positive for THC, the report said.
The juvenile was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Lake County Jail without incident.
