A Eustis man who claimed to be meeting a friend to fix his roof was arrested when a K-9 sniffed out meth in his vehicle.
Deputies were dispatched to a 911 hang up call for service at an undisclosed Eustis residence around 9:46 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Dispatch advised that the caller observed multiple males with firearms standing outside her home across the street.
A deputy at the scene saw two males standing outside of the residence where the complainant advised. After identifying themselves as law enforcement and giving commands to raise their hands, one male got into his vehicle and drove off. The other, later identified as 49-year-old Edward Louis Fischbach, stood outside of his vehicle and was detained pending further investigation, the report said.
Fischbach stated that he was there to meet a friend who lived down the road to fix his roof. He was unable to identify the other male’s name and why they chose to meet at that location, the report said.
A K-9 unit with the Eustis Police Department then arrived on scene to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle which resulted in a positive hit. A loaded syringe with a dark brown liquid was underneath the driver’s side door outside of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle was a white backpack on the rear passenger seat, the report said.
Inside the bag was a clear bag with a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 0.8 grams. Also found were two clear Ziploc bags containing crystal-like residue. A glass smoking device with residue was located in the white bag along with a smaller black bag containing one used syringe with residue, the report said.
Fischbach was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The Maryland native was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $3,500.
