A Fruitland Park man who was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving during a traffic accident blew three times the legal limit when tested.
The Leesburg Police Department received a call of a vehicle accident near Perkins Street and Sunshine Avenue around 8:14 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the LPD. An officer responded post-crash to assist in a criminal investigation relative to the driver, 38-year-old Harry Bob Elcar, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officer observed Elcar in the driver’s seat of a gray Toyota which was involved in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident informed officers that Elcar was the other driver at the time of the incident. Elcar was accompanied by a passenger who also advised that Elcar was driving, the report said.
One of the officers asked Elcar if he would be willing to submit to field sobriety exercises, and he agreed. As a result of their observations, including swaying and bloodshot eyes, Elcar was arrested and transported to the LPD for the booking process. Breath tests taken later resulted in 0.280g/210L and .284g/210L, about three times the legal limit of .08g/210L, the report said.
Elcar was charged with DUI (accident/property damage or minor injury) and issued two traffic citations. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
