An Apopka man was arrested for driving without a valid license since 2016 after being stopped for an expired tag.

A trooper was driving northbound on State Road 25 in Clermont when he noticed a white Dodge pickup truck, later found to be driven by 31-year-old Miguel Angel Gonzalez Guapillo, with expired tags around 7:09 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He ran the tag and confirmed it expired in January.
The trooper got behind the truck and activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle turned off State Road 25 at West Chester Street, and the trooper made contact Gonzalez Guapillo. He gave the trooper a Mexico consular ID only, the report said.
When asked if he had a driver’s license, Gonzalez Guapillo advised he no longer had one. There was a passenger in the vehicle who spoke no English who also advised that he did not have a valid driver’s license, the report said.
As a result, Clermont Towing was dispatched to collect the truck portion and tow it. A check revealed that Gonzalez Guapillo’s license was in fact expired as of March 2016, the report said.
Gonzalez Guapillo was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. The native of Mexico was also issued citations for expired tag less than six months and no driver’s license. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
