A Winter Haven woman screamed and refused to listen to police while she was being arrested for drunk driving in Leesburg.
Ashley Syboodeen, 32, was charged with DUI, resisting without violence, and driving with a suspended/revoked license (with knowledge). She was pulled over at around 5 a.m. Friday after police received a report of a black car crossing over the median and striking curbs on U.S. Highway near Sleepy Hollow Road, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
An officer saw a black BMW abruptly pull into and park in the Nobles Town Center parking lot at 1450 E. North Blvd. Due to the matching vehicle description, the officer stepped out of the vehicle to approach the BMW. Additional officers arrived and met with Syboodeen, who refused to identify herself, the report said.
Officers noted Syboodeen’s speech was mumbled, her eyes were bloodshot and there was a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. They asked her to step out of the vehicle, and she initially refused before eventually complying. Syboodeen showed the officers a tire on the passenger side of the vehicle that was apparently blown out by striking a large object or a curb. She then agreed to perform field sobriety exercises, which she failed, according to the report.
Syboodeen still refused to provide her information and became verbally aggressive while she was being arrested. She was escorted to a patrol vehicle and checked for weapons, the report said.
Officers tried to place Syboodeen in the rear seat of the vehicle when she began actively resisting by placing her feet on the door frame and pushing against them. She had to be physically lifted and secured in the vehicle, where she began kicking the door and screaming, according to the report.
A vehicle inventory revealed several pieces of marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, and Syboodeen’s medical marijuana registry card, which was used to identify her and to run a check of her license. A total of 11 suspensions, cancellations and revocations were listed dating from 2019 to 2022, the report said.
Syboodeen later refused to submit to a breath test. As officers explained the process and tried again to get her consent, she constantly screamed and refused to listen, stating she did not speak English, according to the report.
The Guinea native was taken directly to the Lake County Jail due to her combative behavior. Her bond was set at $3,000.
