Chicago-area favorite Portillo’s making big push in Lake County

A famous Chicago-area restaurant is making a big push in Lake County.

Portillo’s has announced it will be opening restaurants in Clermont and in Lady Lake.

The new restaurant in Clermont will open in a new development on Highway 50, just half a mile east of the U.S. Hw. 27/Highway 50 intersection. Designed with a Florida garage theme, the 7,700 square foot restaurant will have seating for 170 guests inside and an additional 50 on the outdoor patio. It will also feature Portillo’s signature double drive-thru lanes.

In Lady Lake, the new Portillo’s restaurant will be built along U.S. Hwy. 27/441, near the intersection with County Road 25/Teague Trail. The 7,800-square-foot restaurant will seat 226 patrons and provide drive-through ordering. The restaurant will also offer outdoor patio seating.

The famed menu includes Chicago-Style Hot Dogs, Famous Italian Beef Sandwiches, Char-Grilled Burgers and Portillo’s Famous Chocolate Cake.

In 1963, Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a small trailer to open the first Portillo’s hot dog stand in Villa Park, Ill. which he called “The Dog House.” Years later, Portillo’s has become a brand synonymous with Chicago. There are now more than 70 Portillo’s locations.
