A homeless sex offender from Leesburg was arrested for trespassing at a Circle K in Fruitland Park after a police officer recognized him on the property.
The officer responded to the store, located at 100 W. Miller St., at around 2:25 a.m. Tuesday to assist a K9 unit with a trespassed individual, later identified as 52-year-old Lance Andrew Evans, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.
The K9 officer said he saw Evans enter the store and that he knew him from previous encounters with law enforcement, such as when he was arrested for setting a tent on fire in April. Additionally, the officer recalled that Evans had been trespassed from the store in the past, the report said.
Evans, who was convicted in 1990 of having sex with a 15-year-old girl, was arrested and charged with trespass after warning. He was taken without further incident to the Lake County Jail, where bond was set at $1,000.
