A 24-year-old Leesburg woman is in the Lake County Jail after being charged with stealing and pawning items from elderly residents at the assisted living home where she worked.

Angelique Sinceria Daniels, of 127 Bayou Circle, was charged with four counts each of theft from a person 65 or older, dealing in stolen property, and providing false information to a pawnbroker, as well as a single count of scheme to defraud. She’s being held on $53,000 bond.

Leesburg Police were contacted in August by the executive director of Vista Lake Assisted Living, 700 S. Lake St. in Leesburg, after a 93-year-old resident reported a ring was missing from her room. The victim said Daniels was assisting her in her room when she told her she had to attend a meeting, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The victim said she left the room but returned a short time later when she found out there was no meeting. Daniels was leaving the room as she returned. The woman then realized her ring, valued at $7,000, was missing, the affidavit said.

Daniels was later fired from the home for an unrelated policy violation. An officer searched her name and found three transactions at a Leesburg pawnshop and visited the store the next day. An employee there also provided a fourth pawn ticket in Daniels’ name, according to the affidavit.

A detective took over the case and went to the pawnshop in October to get security footage. At that time, it was learned that Daniels had pawned another item less than a week before, the affidavit said.

The detective eventually was able to find three other victims whose jewelry was pawned by Williams. A warrant was issued for her arrest on Nov. 22 and she was apprehended Monday. Daniels will appear in Lake County Court on Jan. 3.
