A Leesburg woman was arrested on two counts of aggravated battery after allegedly using a knife to slash a senior citizen at an area motel.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday to the Days Inn located at 551 East State Road 44 in Wildwood.

When the deputy spoke to the male victim, he claimed 45-year-old Heather Dawkins had been acting erratically all day long. He said that when he tried to talk to her, she ran out of the room into the parking lot. He saw Dawkins fall down and when he went to help her up, she pulled out a knife and slashed him on his right arm. Several witnesses told the deputy that they saw the unprovoked attack. Security video showed Dawkins hitting the senior citizen prior to cutting him. The arrest report did not reveal the relationship between Dawkins and the victim, but did indicate that it was “domestic” in nature.

Dawkins was charged with aggravated battery to a person over 65. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
