A candidate for the Lake County School Board received a huge boost after he was appointed to the seat he hopes to win this fall.
Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday announced the appointment of Tyler Brandeburg to the District 2 seat for which he is running. The seat had been vacant.
Brandeburg is the son of former school board member Rosanne Brandeburg.
He said he was “extremely humbled” by the governor’s appointment.
“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to grow up in Lake County and graduate from Lake County Public Schools. I look forward to working with the superintendent and my fellow board members as we continue striving to deliver the highest quality of education to our students and community,” he said.
The appointment gives him an edge in the crowded November field.
Brandeburg is facing six other candidates in November, including former school board member Jim Miller, who already has more than $50,000 in his campaign coffers.
Miller lost his school board seat in 2012 to Brandeburg’s mother.
Tyler Brandeburg is a commercial insurance advisor for Brown and Brown. He volunteers his time with the Educational Foundation of Lake County and is a member of Leadership Lake County Class of 2019. Brandeburg earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Florida.
Miller is a commercial realtor and is married to retired Lake County Judge Donna Miller.
