Lake County motorcyclist dies at hospital after rear ended by vehicle

A Lake County motorcyclist has died at a local hospital after he was rear ended by a vehicle.

The 64-year-old Mount Dora man was riding a 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 8:45 p.m. Saturday eastbound on Old U.S. Hwy. 441 near the Barnwood Bar-B-Que restaurant in Mount Dora when he slowed to make a left turn onto Holly Drive, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 34-year-old Mount Dora woman traveling behind him in a 2018 Hyundai sedan when she failed to slow down and rear ended the man’s motorcycle. He was knocked from the motorcycle. He was transported by ambulance to AdventHealth Waterman Hospital in Tavares where he later died. The report noted the man had been wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation.
