Lake County motorcyclists injured in crash that claimed lives of fellow riders

Two Lake County motorcyclists were injured in a crash that claimed the lives of a man and woman riding with them.

A 36-year-old Titusville man was riding a motorcycle with a 46-year-old female passenger from Wisconsin at 10:35 p.m. Saturday. They were traveling west on State Road 44 at Eau Claire Avenue east of Deland in Volusia County when an eastbound Toyota Corolla driven by a 41-year-old Orlando man traveled across the center line and struck their motorcycle, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Toyota also struck a motorcycle ridden by a 38-year-old man from Mount Dora. He was seriously injured.

A third motorcycle ridden by a 41-year-old man from Sorrento attempted to avoid the collision. He laid down the motorcycle and escaped with minor injuries.

The man and the woman were pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the Toyota also suffered serious injuries.

None of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets, the report noted.

The accident remains under investigation.
