Father and son killed in fiery crash on State Road 46 in Lake County

A father and son were killed in a fiery crash on the afternoon of Christmas Eve on State Road 46 in Lake County.

A 49-year-old Eustis man was driving a sedan at 1:25 p.m. westbound on State Road 46 near State Road 429 when an eastbound sport utility vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Summerfield man traveled into the westbound lanes and struck the front, left side of the sedan, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The sedan caught fire.

The 49-year-old Eustis man died at the scene and his 27-year-old son, also from Eustis, was transported to Orlando Health where he later died. The Summerfield man suffered minor injuries and was transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
