A three-year romantic relationship ended with the arrest of a man at the Planet Fitness gym in Leesburg.
William Moore Hughes, 49, had been at his girlfriend’s residence at the Little Harbor Pointe Apartments on Sunday when she confronted him regarding an outstanding arrest warrant out of Hillsborough County. The couple had a heated discussion and went to separate rooms to cool off, according to the Leesburg Police Department arrest report.
The next day they decided to end their relationship. Hughes began to gather his belongings and started to throw some of the victim’s possessions around her apartment. He grabbed a key to her apartment and she followed him out to the front porch. He then turned to go back inside the apartment and she moved in front of the door to block his entry while demanding the return of the key.
As she stood in the door the Columbus, Ohio native, who stands 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 265 pounds, put his right arm on her neck, grabbed her hair and threw her aside. The victim then shouted for help. Her neighbor heard her scream and called the police, according to the report.
The victim then began to record his actions in the apartment with her cell phone. Hughes grabbed the cellphone and bent it in half. He fled the scene on his electric bicycle.
The investigating officer noted that the victim had redness on her throat and a mangled ponytail. She told police Hughes works out at the Planet Fitness gym where he was taken into custody.
He was arrested on the outstanding Hillsborough County warrant and the new charges of domestic battery and criminal mischief. Bond was set at $3,000 on the new charges. Hughes was booked at the Lake County Jail.
