Police called to investigate a disturbance at a Tavares hotel ended up arresting an 18-year-old Leesburg man on drug charges Tuesday afternoon.

Two Tavares Police officers responded around 2:50 p.m. to the Comfort Inn and Suites, where employees said the occupants of Room 210 could be heard yelling and screaming at each other. They also said it sounded as if they were striking each other, according to the police report.

The officers approached the doorway of the room and could hear a male subject inside screaming and yelling at a female subject, who sounded like she was sobbing hysterically. The male subject’s voice started sounding like it was nearing the door and he said he was leaving to go to a doctor’s appointment. As soon as the door opened and the male subject came out of the room, officers grabbed him by the arms and placed him in restraints, the report said.

One of the officers recognized the male subject from previous interactions with him. The male subject told the officers he and the female subject he was arguing with had been staying in the room with another friend, Zachary Flint, since he turned 18. The male subject said they were preparing to move out of the hotel and into an apartment and that he was upset because Flint wasn’t helping them clean, according to the report.

The male subject said he and Flint were arguing about the situation when Flint left the room. He said he then started arguing with the female subject for “not backing me up when she should have.” The male subject said he was very loud and that he slammed cabinet door several times, but he never struck the female subject, the report said.

The woman told the officers that the male subject and Flint had gotten into an argument and that after Flint left, she and the male subject got into an argument. She said the argument was verbal between all parties and at no time was anybody struck. No arrests were made in connection with the argument, according to the report.

While the officers were talking to the female subject in the open doorway to the room, one of them saw the bathroom door was open with the counter clearly visible. The officer saw in plain view a clear plastic sandwich bag on top of the counter containing a green leafy substance. There was also a large glass “bong” next to the bag, the report said.

The officer was then informed that additional narcotics were in the room. While officers were searching, Flint returned and said any drugs found in the room belonged to him. Inside the center dresser, an officer found a grinder and small glass container. The substance inside the container was identified as THC wax by the occupants of the room. A second bag of the green leafy substance was found on a table in the corner of the room, according to the report.

Flint, whose address is listed as 10303 Patrick Drive in Leesburg, was charged with possession of THC concentrate. He was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he was released that evening on $2,000 bond. He will appear in Lake County Court on May 17.
