Lake County activating emergency shelter as temperatures expected to plummet

With temperatures expected to drop Saturday, Lake County is activating a shelter for those vulnerable to cold weather.

Trinity Assembly of God, located at 200 Urick Street in Fruitland Park, will open from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning. Masks are required and COVID-19 screening will be conducted.

Lake County Connection will provide free transportation to riders who indicate they are traveling to a cold weather shelter. Riders should arrive before the indicated pick-up time.

SATURDAY, JAN. 16

  • Lake County Connection will pick up riders from the public parking lot next to The Open Door, located at 115 E. Citrus Ave., Eustis, between 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Lake County Connection will pick up riders from the Salvation Army, located at 2605 South St., Leesburg, between 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
  • Lake County Connection will pick up riders from Come As You Are Ministry, located at 1305 Sunshine Ave., Leesburg, between 4:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Lake County Connection will pick up riders at Citrus Tower Boulevard and U.S. Hwy. 27 in Clermont at 4:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, JAN. 17

Lake County Connection will pick up riders from Trinity Assembly of God between 6:45 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. and may return riders to:

The above locations are not expected to be open. Lake County residents who anticipate the need to be sheltered at the church but are unable to be picked up at one of the pre-designated locations should call Lake County Connection at (352) 742-2612 by 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 to schedule a time and location for pick-up.
