Lake County receives electric vehicle charging station from Duke Energy

Lake County has received one of more than 500 electric Park and Plug vehicle charging stations that Duke Energy is installing in the Florida service area.

This Duke Energy Park and Plug charging station for electric vehicles is located in a parking garage in Tavares.

In August, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners approved an agreement with Duke Energy for the installation of an electric vehicle charging station in the parking garage in downtown Tavares. In September, Duke Energy installed the EV charging station – at no cost to Lake County – and will maintain and repair the equipment through the end of the pilot program in 2022.

Users of the charging station will be assessed a fee for energy-related costs, with the external network provider collecting all fees and then reimbursing Lake County for energy charges collected.

“We are thrilled to partner with Duke Energy to bring this pilot program to Lake County,” said Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks. “Being chosen as a host site for this advanced technology positions Lake County as a leader in supporting clean electric transportation.”

This Park and Plug charging station in Tavares is one of 500 being installed in the Florida service area by Duke Energy.

The pilot program is one of the many ways Duke Energy is paving the way to a smarter energy future in Florida.

“I’m excited about the opportunities the Park and Plug pilot program will provide for our customers in Lake County and throughout the state,” said Duke Energy President Catherine Stempien. “We are committed to providing smarter, cleaner energy alternatives for all our customers.”
