Leesburg man jailed after deputies discover hidden handgun and drugs in vehicle

Kyser McKeever Luther

Lake County sheriff’s deputies got quite a surprise during a traffic stop on Thursday night.

Deputies from the DUI unit stopped a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Kyser McKeever Luther, of Leesburg, for an expired license plate. While speaking with him, they discovered that he had a loaded, unsheathed Kel-Tec .380-caliber handgun with an extended magazine under his driver’s seat.

Luther did not possess a concealed-weapons permit to allow him to have the firearm in the vehicle in the way it was stored. And deputies also discovered a digital scale, heroin, methamphetamine and crack cocaine, a sheriff’s office report states.

Luther, who lives at 1712 Connell Road in Leesburg, was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, two counts of possession of heroin, possession of cocaine and carrying a concealed unlicensed firearm. He was released early Friday morning on $33,000 bond.
