As temperatures are on the rise, the Leesburg City Commission is lowering rates for Leesburg electric customers.
Starting with the June 2019 billing cycle, the bulk power cost adjustment will be reduced by $5.00 per 1,000 kWh. With the decrease, the typical bill for the first 1,000 kWh of residential use will be $112.94. The bulk power adjustment is designed to offset the market’s fluctuating fuel costs.
Electric consumption traditionally increases during hot summer months so this reduction will assist Leesburg’s 24,000 customers with controlling costs. The rate change demonstrates the city’s continuing commitment to provide quality electric service at a regionally competitive price, according to City Manager Al Minner.
“We continually look for ways to reduce electric expenses while still providing a high level of service,” Al Minner said. “Being able to lower this charge, especially during the summer season that historically sees the highest cooling costs, is great news for our customers.”
Leesburg is a city of more than 23,000 residents. The city government serves twice as many people with its electric, gas, water and wastewater public utilities.
