Rheta Ross, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2025 at the age of 90. Born on January 20, 1934, in Maryland to Joseph and Ruthella Resh, Rheta was a woman who dedicated her life to family, faith, and service to others.

Rheta was predeceased by her loving husband, Ernest (Ernie) Ross, who was her high school sweetheart, and her daughter, Vanessa Beaumont. She is survived by her daughters Deborah McTureous (Dave) of Eustis, FL, Wilma DeDier of Tavares, FL, and Sharon Jernigan of Tavares, FL. She was a proud grandmother to Jennifer Jernigan, Jacquelin DeDier, Chelsey Bailey, Jillian DeDier, and Stephanie Pickrel. Her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kayla (Jennifer), and Natalie, Denver, and Maverick (Chelsey), were the light of her life.

A devoted family matriarch, Rheta was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. She especially adored spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Her family was the heart of her world, and she always made sure they felt her love in everything she did.

In addition to her role as a devoted mother and grandmother, Rheta was a passionate preschool teacher and a proud member of the Faith Lutheran Church community. She played a key role in establishing the church’s preschool, where she was loved by many for her gentle spirit and dedication to nurturing young minds. Rheta was also an active member of the church choir, where her love for music and her faith shone brightly.

Rheta had a special love for sports, particularly football and baseball, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She could often be found cheering on her favorite teams and discussing the games afterward. Her joy for life, her sense of humor, and her ability to find the good in every situation made her a beloved presence to all who crossed her path.

After the death of her husband, Rheta worked part-time at the Publix Bakery in Eustis, FL, for many years. She enjoyed the camaraderie of her coworkers and developed lasting friendships with those she served. Her kindness and smile brightened the days of all who crossed her path.

Rheta spent her final year residing at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Tavares, FL, where she was well taken care of by a wonderful staff who she adored. The compassionate care and kindness she received during her time there brought her comfort and peace, and she formed lasting bonds with those who tended to her needs.

Rheta’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on through her family and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude.

A private family service will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an organization of your choice in her honor.
