An officer responded to a domestic battery at an undisclosed residence around 6:06 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the female victim outside the residence. She explained that her husband of more than 25 years, identified as 48-year-old Alejandro Alvarez, struck her with a plastic battery-powered candle, the report said.

The victim further advised that she checked the history of Alvarez’ work computer and found websites he should not have visited. She confronted him, and a verbal argument ensued. She wanted him to own his mistakes, but he would not and became more upset, the report said.

Alvarez then grabbed the plastic candle and threw it at the victim. It struck her outer left bicep. He left the residence in his vehicle while she called her father to tell him what happened. Her father immediately called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and asked a deputy to respond to help the victim, the report said.

While on scene, the officer spoke with the deputy who stated he was notified by the victim’s father that Alvarez pushed her to the ground and struck her several times. Alvarez had a history of battering the victim, but it went unreported due to the victim being afraid of him and how he might retaliate, the report said.

The officer proceeded to take photographs of the kitchen area of the residence where the argument began and where Alvarez threw the plastic candle. He also took pictures of the candle, which was about 6 inches in length and 3 inches around. He did not see any redness on the victim’s left bicep but took photos of the area anyway, the report said.

Another officer spoke with the victim’s son who advised that he was in the shower when he heard the victim and Alvarez arguing with one another. Alvarez then picked up a cup-like object and threw it at the victim’s left arm, the report said.

The officer also spoke with the victim’s younger son who stated he was in the dining room area and noticed the victim and Alvarez arguing. Alvarez picked up the plastic candle and threw it at her, hitting her in the left arm near her bicep, the report said.

Additionally, a criminal history check revealed Alvarez had a domestic battery arrest on Sept. 18, 2022, involving the same victim. The charge was dropped or abandoned, the report said.

Alvarez was subsequently arrested on charge on simple battery (domestic). The native of Mexico was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
