Two deputies observed a gray 2018 Ford pickup truck squealing its tires headed westbound on Citrus Tower headed toward Hammock Ridge Road around 12:44 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Cameron Isbill, hit the left curb of the westbound lane and headed into the opposite flow of traffic in the eastbound lane of Citrus Tower. He drove into the easement of Citrus Tower toward the Domino’s parking lot, then back into the easement over the curb of the eastbound lane to cross over the curb again so he could head westbound onto Hammock Ridge, the report said.

The deputies got into their patrol vehicles to attempt a traffic stop as a result. One of them never lost sight of the truck while the other got behind it at the traffic light on Citrus Tower and U.S. Highway 27. When the light turned green, he initiated a traffic stop on the truck, and it pulled over roughly 500 yards into Hammock Ridge on the right paved shoulder, the report said.

Upon making contact with Isbill, the deputy smelled a strong, distinct odor of alcohol on him and noticed he appeared to slur his words. He also saw two large open cans of Twisted Tea and a liquid substance on the floormats. When asked if he drank any alcohol, Isbill stated he did and was on the way to his friend’s house, the report said.

Another deputy arrived on scene and made contact with Isbill who he could immediately smell a strong, distinct odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He then informed Isbill of the reason for his presence and asked him preliminary questions prior to a DUI investigation, the report said.

Isbill subsequently refused to perform field sobriety exercises. Due to the deputies’ observations, the distinct smell of alcohol coming from his breath, his speech and the two open containers in the vehicle, he was placed into custody and transported to Lake County Jail, the report said.

One of the deputies returned to the scene where Isbill left the roadway near Domino’s, to which he observed multiple sprinkler heads broken and other property damage. Due to the damage being in the city of Clermont, the Clermont Police Department responded, the report said.

While on the way to jail, Isbill began spontaneously uttering that he wanted to make the DUI process as quick as he possibly could. He advised that they “got him dead to rights.” He stated he knew better, should not have been drinking and driving, and ultimately made a bad mistake, the report said.

While at jail, Isbill provided three breath samples resulting in 0.155, 0.181 and 0.171. The report noted he was polite and took blame for the incident.

Isbill was ultimately charged for DUI and released from jail after posting $2,000 bond.
