An employee at 7-Eleven, located at 737 S. 14th St., called law enforcement around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The complainant stated 50-year-old Jesus Antonio Marquez came into the convenience store, took a black and yellow can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade from the cooler and left without paying for it.

The complainant also advised that Marquez had been trespassed from the store on Dec. 31, 2024. He left the store headed southbound on 14th Street with the drink valued at $2.79. It was later confirmed that Marquez had been trespassed on the given date, the report said.

Upon arrival at the scene, an officer made contact with Marquez who was immediately identified due to having been dealt with earlier in the day on a previous call for service. He was found at South 14th and Bryant Street across from the 7-Eleven, sitting on the sidewalk with Mike’s Hard Lemonade in his possession. The can was open, appeared to be full minus a few sips and cold to the touch, the report said.

Marquez was subsequently detained and taken back to the 7-Eleven. Another officer on scene assisting with the investigation watched the store security footage which confirmed Marquez walked into the store, took the beverage from the cooler and walked out without trying to pay for it, the report said.

As a result, Marquez was placed under arrest and read his rights, which he understood. He denied taking the drink from the store and confirmed three times that he paid for it, the report said.

A criminal history check revealed Marquez had two prior convictions for retail theft from Aug. 2024 and July 2022. He also had multiple convictions for trespass after warning, the report said.

Marquez was later escorted to UF Health Leesburg Hospital, located at 600 E. Dixie Ave., after saying he needed to be seen by a doctor. He was ultimately discharged, the report said.

The Illinois native was charged with retail theft (two or more prior theft) and trespass after warning. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $3,500.
