Gary L. Ward, 73, of Eustis, Florida, peacefully passed away Friday, November 22, 2024. He was a loyal and devoted husband, father, and PaPa; as well as a mentor to many AFJROTC cadets.

    Gary was born on November 3, 1951, in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was preceded in
    death by his father, Mason Ward; his mother, Ruth Ward; and his sister, Alice Ward.
    Gary is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of nearly 55 years; his sons, Gary Ward, Jr
    and Chris Ward; his cherished grandchildren: Justin, Brandie (James), Ashley,
    Cameron, and Rodney; his great grandchildren, JJ, James, Juniper, and Ruby. He is
    also survived by his sister, Brenda (Dan) Thompson, as well as numerous nieces and
    nephews.

    Gary was a die-hard Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He never missed a televised game
    and when the game wasn’t going the direction he wanted it to go, he would turn off
    the game and just keep up with the scores. RTR

    Gary graduated from Pensacola High School in 1969; having served three years in
    AFJROTC. He served 26 years active duty in the United States Air Force; retiring as
    a Senior Master Sergeant. Following his retirement, Gary served 25 years as the
    Aerospace Space Instructor and was “The Father of the FL-951 Air Force Junior
    ROTC” program at Mount Dora High School. Gary served a total of 54 years in an
    Air Force uniform.

    Gary was instrumental in creating the AFJROTC Drill Team and Table of Honor at
    Mount Dora High School. He was also the Head Coach for the Mount Dora High
    School’s girl’s fast pitch softball team for a number of years.

    Gary will be deeply missed by all those he served with, those he knew, and those
    who loved him. His spirit, leadership, kindness, and encouragement will remain in
    the hearts of many Air Force personnel, cadets, friends, and families forever.
