An Orlando man was arrested for driving with a suspended license when officers found seven penalties in his driving history during a traffic stop.
An officer noticed a gold Mercedes without a passenger headlight near U.S. Highway 441 and Pine Avenue around 11:12 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Mount Dora Police Department. He initiated a traffic stop at U.S. Highway 441 and Country Club Boulevard.
The officer then spoke with the driver, who was identified by his Florida CDL license as 33-year-old Dakwane Ramel Booker. The officer explained the reason for the stop before asking him for his driver’s license and registration. Booker handed him the CDL and registration instead, the report said.
The officer told Booker to stand by while he went to check his information. Dispatch ran Booker’s information and came back with a valid ID card only. A check of his driving record showed his CDL was suspended indefinitely on Oct. 17 for failure to pay seven traffic fines dating from Aug. 6 to Oct. 8, the report said.
While speaking to Booker, another officer found his ID card in the driver-side door. He was confronted about this and stated the DMV issued it to him. But another search showed that he surrendered his CDL on March 6 and had his license suspended since June 18, the report said.
Booker was only allowed to obtain a FL ID card on Oct. 17. This showed that he was aware that his driving privileges were suspended, and he chose to operate a motor vehicle, the report said.
Booker was subsequently arrested on charge of driving while license suspended or revoked. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
