A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly grabbing and hitting his wife during an argument in the Walmart parking lot.
Officers responded to Walmart, located at 2501 Citrus Blvd., regarding a battery around 6:48 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Upon arrival, one of the officers met with the male complainant. He advised that he saw a man, later identified as 71-year-old Garry Wayne Catron, grabbing, hitting and shoving his wife. He also stomped on her foot, the report said.
The officer then spoke with the wife, or the victim. She stated that she was in the Walmart parking lot arguing with Catron when he tightly grabbed her wrist, kicked her legs, stomped on her foot and twisted her arm. She further advised that he had been in the hospital because he may have dementia, but he had not been officially diagnosed, the report said.
Another witness was interviewed, and he stated that he observed Catron and the victim arguing. When he tried to break up the fight, Catron tried to hit him and the victim, the report said.
Catron advised that he and the victim were only arguing. Later, he was read his rights and refused to answer any questions, the report said.
Additionally, officers observed visible bruises above the victim’s right eye, the report said.
Catron was subsequently arrested and charged with simple battery (domestic). He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $500.
