A deputy responded as backup to a traffic stop at U.S. Hwy. 441 and Professional Drive in Leesburg around 6:20 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Once backup arrived, the deputy on scene advised that she pulled over the driver, identified as 25-year-old Juan Gerardo Diaz Salazar, for not having taillights on while it was dark outside. When the deputy approached him, he stated he did not have a valid Florida driver’s license and had never had one, nor did he have a license from any other state, the report said.

Diaz Salazar instead identified himself by name and date of birth. He later provided a Mexican ID, confirming the given information, the report said.

After having the LCSO dispatch run Diaz Salazar’s name and date of birth through a law enforcement database, it was confirmed he did not and never has had a Florida driver’s license or a license in any other state, the report said.

Diaz Salazar was then arrested for no valid driver’s license (never had one) and issued a citation for operating a motor vehicle with no taillights. The native of Mexico was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
