A Leesburg man was arrested for drug possession when a deputy found meth in his pocket while serving a court-ordered mental health evaluation at The Plantation.
A deputy responded to 25304 Felicity Court in Leesburg to serve a court ordered mental health evaluation around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He tried making contact with 52-year-old David Edward Brady to serve the order several times, but it was determined he was not home.
At about 2:30 a.m. Friday, the deputy returned to Brady’s house regarding a possible burglary. He successfully met with Brady who believed his home was burglarized due to the front porch’s screen door being open. The deputy explained it was open because deputies accidentally left it propped after the earlier attempt at executing the court order, the report said.
Brady was detained at that point. While doing a custodial search prior to transporting him to LifeStream, a behavioral center-psychiatric hospital, the deputy found a plastic bag containing a clear, crystalline substance in the right front pocket of his pants. Brady spontaneously uttered the substance was not his and that he put his pants on without checking his pockets. However, his car keys and state-issued ID were in the same pocket, the report said.
The clear substance later tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.
Brady was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. The New York native was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,500.
