A man who works as a landscaper was arrested for driving without a license after being stopped for speeding and turning without using a signal.
An officer observed the driver of a silver sport utility vehicle, later identified as 34-year-old Abel Rodriguez-Angel, speeding westbound on Montclair Road around 2:31 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The officer estimated the vehicle’s speed to be about 50 mph in a 35-mph zone.
As the vehicle approached the intersection with Thomas Avenue, it stopped at the stop sign. It proceeded to turn northbound on Thomas Avenue without using its turn signal. As a result, the officer followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop using his patrol vehicle’s lights and siren, the report said.
The officer then approached Rodriguez-Angel who spoke little to no English and was unable to provide identification when asked. Through investigative measures, his identity was confirmed using a photo on the Lake County Sheriff’s Office website. Additionally, dispatch learned he did not have a driver’s license, the report said.
Rodriguez-Angel was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without driver’s license. The native of Mexico was also issued two written warnings for failing to signal his turn and unlawful speed. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $500 bond.
