A Tavares man was arrested in a stolen blue Porsche with a bottle of meth when deputies spotted him in a 7-Eleven parking lot.
Deputies were alerted of a license plate reader hit from Volusia County for a stolen vehicle traveling west on State Road 44 entering Lake County around 10:23 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. They responded to the area a few minutes later to find the vehicle at a 7-Eleven gas pump, located at 31631 SR 44 in Eustis.
Upon arrival, one of the deputies approached the driver, 64-year-old Barry Aumack, and the passenger. They told Aumack that the vehicle, a blue Porsche, was stolen from Orange County. Aumack stated he did not know the vehicle was stolen, the report said.
He told deputies that he borrowed the car from his daughter’s boyfriend to go to a medical appointment in Deland. He mentioned that the passenger normally takes him to his appointments, but his vehicle was out of gas, the report said.
After the investigation on scene, Aumack was arrested, and the vehicle was processed.
Deputies inventoried the vehicle only to find a crystal-like substance inside a pill bottle prescribed to Aumack in the front driver’s side of the vehicle. The substance, which was stored in a black bag, tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.
Aumack was asked about the substance, and he denied ownership. However, he knew it was in the center console and placed it inside the pill bottle, the report said.
The Michigan native was ultimately charged with grand theft, possession of methamphetamine and petit theft. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,000 bond.
